When it comes to vet bills you should already know they can get expensive. I sought out cheap treatments for demodectic mange and a few helped.
The important thing to know is that any treatment you try should be as safe as possible and you should consult a veterinarian before you try it out. By safe I mean the chemicals involved should never have the possibility to harm your dog.
Mange in dogs is very common and most remedies and treatments for mange are done from home.
1. Borax + Peroxide can be used as a treatment. Simply purchase a box of borax. You can get this at any grocery store in the laundry aisle. Then get a bottle of peroxide. Mix 1 1/2 cup of borax with a half bottle of peroxide in a 1 gallon bucket. Then rinse your dog with the solution and allow it to dry on your dog. Do this once a week until signs of progress are shown.
2. The next treatment involves the use of Ivermec 1%.(If your dog is a Collie or has been mixed with a Collie do not do this treatment).
Before you try this treatment you need a vet to check for heart worms. If no heart worms are shown then it is safe to try this treatment. Ivermectin prevents heart worms and dramatically kills the demodectic mange. This can be bought at any farm feed store. It should be just Ivermectin not Ivermectin
Plus. The dosage of Ivomec 1% for dogs is 0.0027 cc or ml per 10 pounds. So that is very little and should be given orally. I never suggest injected. I would either shoot the solution into the dogs mouth or in the dogs food.
3. Benzoyl peroxide shampoo is a shampoo that is made with benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide cleans all the dirt and skin oils that a dogs skin develops. This can be bought and applied for at least three months, 3 times a month.
These three treatments cost under $100 and after consistently being applied for a few weeks should show improvement. By following these three demodectic mange treatments your helping destroy the mange from the inside and outside of the dog. For the health of your dog I wouldn’t over due it with treatment. Don’t use too much of one thing thinking it will help the severe problem.
Improvements should be seen with these treatments. One thing that will help decrease treatment time is getting the immune system of your dog developed.
One the immune system is fully developed this demodectic mange problem should no longer occur. These are not only inexpensive treatments but they make is possible to cure mange at home.

ReplyDeleteGive very little ivermectin orally every other day. 1/10cc per 10 pounds is the amount to give your dog. Along with fish oil and daily baths with medicated shampoo. Any ointment that has benzoyl peroxide will help greatly.
ReplyDeleteTo help with any itching go ahead and give your dog some benedryle, this will also help her sleep comfortable.
